PROJECT:

HOTEL DU VILLAGE

Originally a private estate, then a school for the disabled, and ultimately a restaurant and inn for over 40 years in the historic township of Solebury, Hotel Du Village was in great need of refurbishing and that’s where we came in. When the new owners (Landmark Hospitality) wanted to create a destination event and wedding facility, our approach was not only to renovate the 22 guestrooms and give all the buildings a facelift, but also to design an experiential atmosphere throughout the property. We added a wedding ceremony space, lush gardens connecting the buildings, outdoor fire pits, pool cabanas, arbors, and fencing.

Because the facility is in one of five nationally protected historic districts in Solebury, all of our designs went through a rigorous review and approval process by the Solebury Historic Architectural Review Board. One of the primary reasons the owners selected us as their architect is our experience and successful track record with local review boards. The concept for this project was to preserve and repurpose. For repairs, we proposed natural materials rooted in history such as slate roof tiles and wood windows. We converted maintenance and service areas into private dining rooms, designed ambient interior lighting, and creatively hid mechanical systems behind false walls and roofs so as not to interfere with event experiences.
